Breast lift or inclusion of silicone breast implant is one of the most plastic surgery procedures performed today. With the passage of time, factors such as age, genetics, pregnancy, weight alternation and chronic sun exposure, can change the size and shape of the breasts. The inclusion of the implant aims to obtain firmer and attractive breasts in women who are dissatisfied with the size or shape of the breasts. In addition, breast augmentation is capable of correcting volume asymmetries, leaving them symmetrical, also be useful in the reconstruction, partial or total, of mamas in the mastectomy patients as tumors consequence.
Silicone breast implants can be placed in three different surfaces: submuscular, subglandular or subfascial. In submuscular surface, the implant is placed partially or completely under the pectoralis muscle, against the chest wall. In subglandular, the implant is placed behind the mammary gland and above the pectoral muscle.
Silicone is inert (non-reactive) used in medical practice in various ways. It is the raw material for the production of syringes, drugs, cosmetics and lubricants.
The recommendation to replace the breast implant about 10 years after the first surgery by the manufacturers, is justified by the natural wear of the prosthesis that occurs over the years. Coincidentally, after 10 years, the breasts often have had cosmetic changes inherent to biological aging, something inexorable and common to all people. At that time, along with the exchange of the prosthesis, you can choose another size or even associate the breast pexy, or lifting, if eventually you had breastfed, lost weight or just want another size. Many patients, however, maintains their breasts healthy and beautiful after 10 years of the breast implant, and with current prostheses, the exchange is not mandatory.
